Medical manual treatment
Alexandra’s comprehensive training in medicalmanual treatment
As a specialist in physical and rehabilitative medicine, Alexandra has combined her sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology with in-depth training in medical manual treatment since 1995. Her outstanding osteopathic qualifications – including a Diploma of Osteopathy (D.O.M.), a Diploma in Pediatric Osteopathy and a Master of Science in Osteopathy (MSc Ost., AT) – form a strong foundation for this. From 2014-2019, she was also a lecturer in osteopathy at the Dresden International University (DIU) in Dresden (Germany), where she shaped the next generation of osteopaths with her extensive specialist knowledge in the full-time Bachelor in Osteopathy program.
This versatile expertise flows into Alexandra’s physician-led manual treatments and enables patients to effectively restore their physical balance, activate their inner self-healing powers and achieve new levels of well-being in the long term. Although many manual approaches such as osteopathy, manual medicine, craniosacral therapy and chiropractic therapy are related in their objectives and methodology, medical manual treatment is an independent medical service – and not an osteopathic treatment as defined by the Swiss Health Professions Act (GesBG 811.21). Alexandra therefore draws on a wide range of tried-and-tested, evidence-based techniques to open up individual paths to better health and quality of life for her patients.
What does medical manual treatment help with and why?
Back pain: Back pain is one of the most common complaints and is often the result of tension, incorrect posture or overloading. Unlike osteopathy, medical manual treatment integrates various approaches into one medical service. The aim is to specifically relieve tension, promote blood circulation and thus alleviate pain and improve mobility.
Joint complaints: Medical manual treatment supports the relief of joint complaints through targeted mobilization and stabilization. In addition, craniosacral therapy helps to relieve tension in the body and promote well-being. This method, which takes into account the rhythmic pulsation of the cerebrospinal fluid, can reduce pain and improve mobility.
Chronic headaches: Tension in the neck and head area can be specifically addressed by medical manual treatment. The treatment of headaches is often associated with osteopathy; however, medical manual treatment offers an independent, medical method for the effective relief of complaints.
Digestive disorders: Medical manual treatment can specifically release tension in the abdomen and thus promote digestive function. Craniosacral therapy supports the natural mobility of the intestines and helps to improve well-being.
Respiratory diseases: Medical manual treatment is characterized by its medical approach, which specifically strengthens the respiratory muscles and improves the mobility of the chest. Osteopathy is valued for its holistic approach to the body, while medical manual treatment offers individually tailored solutions based on scientifically sound methods and medical expertise.
Sleep disorders: By specifically promoting relaxation and balancing the nervous system, medical manual treatment can have a supportive effect. Craniosacral therapy can promote more restful sleep.
During pregnancy:
Medical manual treatment provides targeted support for expectant mothers by relieving muscular and fascial tension caused by physical changes. Osteopathy is often appreciated for its gentle approach, but medical manual treatment offers a medically sound alternative that is not only based on individual diagnostics, but also takes a comprehensive approach to improving well-being.
For sporting activities:
Medical manual treatment can help to specifically promote muscle balance, which prevents injuries and improves athletic performance. In addition, craniosacral therapy offers a gentle way to reduce tension in the body and support regeneration after physical exertion.
For older adults:
With increasing age, mobility and quality of life can be improved through targeted measures. Medical manual treatment is designed to alleviate age-related complaints and promote mobility. Osteopathy has proven itself in many areas of prevention and support for older people – medical manual treatment, on the other hand, offers a medical perspective that is specifically tailored to the individual needs of older patients.
What is medical manual treatment?
Medical manual treatment is an independent medical approach that specifically aims to release blockages and tension in the body. The interplay of body structure and function is comprehensively taken into account. Osteopathy is often associated with manual treatments, but is not the same as medical manual treatment in the sense of Health Act 811.21. It uses scientifically based methods and is a medical service that is individually tailored to the patient. By promoting the body’s own healing powers and providing targeted support for mobility, medical manual treatment offers an effective supplement or alternative to conventional medical therapies. It is particularly effective in relieving pain and improving general well-being.
Medical manual treatment for babies and children
Medical manual treatment offers a gentle and holistic approach to promote the health and well-being of babies and children. Many parents are looking for alternative therapy methods to alleviate common complaints in their children.
Colic and digestive problems: Tension in the abdomen can cause digestive problems and discomfort in babies. With targeted applications of craniosacral therapy, medical manual treatment helps to harmonize the body’s own functions and alleviate the symptoms.
Sleep problems: Stable sleep is essential for children’s development. Medical manual treatment uses techniques that act on the nervous system and promotes inner peace and relaxation through craniosacral therapy.
Developmental delays and motor problems: Medical manual treatment offers precise solutions for motor difficulties in children. Osteopathy, as an often-discussed approach, is replaced by medical diagnostics to ensure targeted developmental support.
Postural problems and growing pains: Growth can sometimes be associated with discomfort. Craniosacral therapy, as part of medical manual treatment, supports the balance of the body and relieves tension caused by postural problems.
Prevention and tips: Parents are increasingly looking for methods to preventively support their children’s health. Medical manual treatment offers a holistic, medically based approach that provides both preventative and therapeutic support.
Back pain can manifest itself in many different ways: from stabbing and burning pain to dull and pulling discomfort. Accompanying symptoms such as numbness or tingling are not uncommon. While osteopathy is often perceived as an approach that looks at the entire musculoskeletal system, medical manual treatment focuses on medical precision and individual diagnostics. This approach focuses not only on alleviating symptoms, but also on addressing the underlying causes in a targeted and effective manner.

Treatment of back pain
Depending on the cause and symptoms of the back pain, medical manual treatment offers a precise and effective approach. Craniosacral therapy, which has a gentle effect on the central nervous system, and acupuncture can help to relieve tension and promote mobility. Supplemented by nutritional therapy and targeted exercises, lasting results can be achieved. If necessary, a second medical opinion is available to ensure comprehensive care.
Prevention and tips against back pain
Preventing back pain is just as important as treating it. Regular exercise, back-friendly lifting and carrying and ergonomic workstations can help to prevent back pain. In my practice, I offer individual advice and exercises to effectively prevent back pain and alleviate existing symptoms.
Migraine: A deeper insight into the neurological challenge
Migraine is more than just an intense headache. It is a complex neurological disorder characterized by recurring, often one-sided, pulsating headaches. Accompanying symptoms can include nausea, vomiting and increased sensitivity to light and noise. At the first signs of a migraine, it can be helpful to retreat to a darkened, quiet room and relax. A cool cloth on the forehead can also provide relief.
Medical manual treatment for migraines: a holistic approach
Medical manual treatment offers a holistic approach to migraines. Instead of just treating the symptoms, it attempts to address the underlying causes of the symptoms. While osteopathy is often valued for its gentle approach, medical manual treatment is characterized by its medical focus, which specifically aims to harmonize the nervous system and release tension in the neck and head area. Regular sessions can help to reduce migraine attacks. It is also advisable to identify and avoid trigger factors such as certain foods or stress.
Prevention and lifestyle habits against migraines
A balanced lifestyle can reduce migraine attacks. This includes getting regular sleep, avoiding stress and eating a balanced diet. Make sure you take regular breaks at work, especially if you spend a lot of time in front of the computer. Short walks or stretching exercises can help to relieve tension and prevent migraines.
Osteoarthritis: Understanding what happens in our joints
Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease and is characterized by the breakdown of joint cartilage. This leads to pain, stiffness and limited mobility. Warm baths or the application of warm compresses can help to relieve the pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis.
Medical manual treatment for osteoarthritis: a holistic path to relief
Medical manual treatment for osteoarthritis looks at the person as a whole. The focus is not only on treating the affected joints, but also on promoting general balance in the body. Craniosacral therapy can support this by gently releasing tension and increasing well-being. This method complements medical manual treatment, which aims to promote mobility, relieve pain and strengthen the surrounding structures. A balance of rest and exercise remains crucial – regular, moderate exercise such as walking or swimming can keep joints supple.
Preventive measures and recommendations for osteoarthritis
An active lifestyle, weight control and regular exercise are key elements in the prevention of osteoarthritis. It is also important to eat a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. This can not only promote joint health, but also improve general well-being.

Frequently asked questions about osteopathy
Alexandra has an exceptional osteopathic education: She holds a Diploma of Osteopathy (D.O.M.), a Diploma in Pediatric Osteopathy, a Master of Science in Osteopathy (MSc. Ost., AT) and was a lecturer in Osteopathy at the Dresden International University (DIU) in Dresden, Germany from 2014-2019 – studying full-time for a Bachelor in Osteopathy. This in-depth specialist knowledge is a strong foundation for her doctor-led treatments. In Switzerland, the right to call oneself an osteopath is strictly regulated by law (GesBG 811.21) and differs from the common European recognitions. Fastesana therefore does not offer osteopathy as defined by this law. Instead, Alexandra’s wide-ranging medical expertise is incorporated into her independent, doctor-led manual treatment – a complementary medical therapy that is covered by supplementary insurance.
Is medical manual treatment suitable for all age groups?
Yes, medical manual treatment is versatile and can be individually adapted to the needs of people of all ages – from infants and children to older adults. Its particular strength lies in its holistic approach, which is based on both precise diagnostics and the targeted promotion of the body’s self-regulation mechanisms. Each treatment is preceded by a thorough medical examination to ensure that the chosen techniques are optimally tailored to the respective state of health.
Can medical manual treatment help with chronic pain?
Yes, medical manual treatment is particularly effective for chronic pain. It relies on targeted, manual techniques that gently support the body to release tension and restore balance. This method can help to address the causes of pain and at the same time promote general well-being in the long term.
What is the difference between the techniques used in medical manual treatment, such as osteopathy and chiropractic?
Medical manual treatment differs from other manual approaches such as osteopathy or chiropractic due to its medical focus. While osteopathy emphasizes a holistic view of the body and chiropractic focuses on the alignment of the spine, medical manual treatment integrates sound medical knowledge and precise diagnostics. This enables individual complaints to be treated in a differentiated manner and the entire body to be brought into harmony. Although it uses related techniques, medical manual treatment remains an independent, doctor-led method that addresses the specific needs of each patient.
